Four Signs You Need To Get Your Brakes Looked At

Blog

Few things are as dangerous when driving a car, as having your brakes fail. Even if your brakes are just a little on the "too cushy" side, this could lead to an accident if it keeps you from stopping in time when the car in front of you slows down. To prevent such accidents, it's important to have your brakes checked over regularly. Here are four signs you need to schedule a free brake inspection right now.

You hear squeaking noises.

Sometimes squeaking noises when you apply pressure to the brakes just means some moisture has accumulated on the brakes. This happens especially often in the spring and winter when there's a lot of water on the road. However, squeaking noises might also mean that your brakes are starting to break down and malfunction. Have your mechanic look over the brakes to see which scenario is the case.

Your car rattles.

Again, there are a few issues that can cause rattling when you brake. Your brakes could be one of them. In this case, however, any situation that is causing rattling will need to be addressed, so you should bring your car to the mechanic and let them diagnose the issue.

You have to push down too hard.

You should not have to push the pedal to the floor to stop your car. The thing is, you might not realize you are pushing your brakes down too far because the problem slowly gets worse and worse over time. Pay close attention the next time you apply the brakes; if you're pushing the pedal to the floor, have the car looked over.

You have a big, upcoming road trip.

Even if your brakes have been working just fine, it's a good idea to have your brakes inspected before you head off. Your brakes could be miles away from beginning to be problematic, and you don't want the problems to start showing up in the middle of your road trip! If you get an oil change before you head off on your trip, too, your mechanic may even throw in a free brake inspection as a complimentary service if you ask. It will only take them a few minutes to glance at and test your brakes to ensure they're working properly.

Brakes keep you safe! Make sure you have your car looked over if any of the scenarios apply to you. Doing so could save your life.
